Cities: Skylines Builds Itself Nice Sale Figures, Isn’t Hit By Godzilla

CitiesLogo_v02-638x250

City builders have never really clicked with me. I can definitely understand the appeal of developing a working city system where everything is efficient and profitable, but I always found more fun booting up the premade cities in Sim City and clicking all of the disasters until my computer came to a crawl. Despite my inability to access the genre, I’ve been keen to see another city builder rise from the ashes of former glory, even after the Simcity remake ended up crashing and burning.

Well, good news for all of those who enjoy swearing a fictitious city plans; the publisher of the recent Cities: Skylines game Paradox Interactive has announced that the game hit 250,000 sales in the first 24 hours, setting a new record for sales under the Paradox name. Continue reading

Descent: Underground Kickstarter Announced, Yes, It’s THAT Descent

descent-dos-title-73959

I’ll be honest, here. When I was a child, I was very easily scared. Slight things that are laughable now, were deeply terrifying back in the day. One of the games that scared me witless was Descent, played on my friend’s dad’s Windows 95 machine. Something about the sinister tunes and the 3D models of robots with bloodied claws on their hands really set me off.

Of course, it stuck with me, and I picked it up again over at GOG. For its time, it was a revolutionary little game, flying around 3D environments and shooting anything robotic. It was like a more brutal version of the Windows maze screensaver. Continue reading

‘Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number’ Released, Goon-Murdering Action Back On Menu

Hotline: Miami  was definitely a very interesting game. I was unsure if I could like a 2D top-down shooter like Hotline. After I picked it up for myself and gave it a go, however, I definitely saw where the appeal of the game is. The graphics may be simplistic, but the gameplay is gripping and exciting.

For those who are into the hyperviolent nature of Hotline, you can now pick up its sequel on websites like Steam and the Humble Store for £12. If you want to play it on Playstation Network, however, you’ll have to wait for tomorrow to play it.

You can even buy a digital collector’s edition that comes with a special EP that contains 6 remixed tracks from the game. It does not, however, feature the full OST, which can also be bought on Steam for £12.

EGX_REZ_FACEBOOK_White21

If you have ever been to an event like a convention, you probably know how important it is to get the tickets as soon as possible. You may also know that it’s very important to know when the tickets will go on sale. If you’re a fan of videogames and live in the UK, you might want to consider popping over to EGX, at the NEC in Birmingham.

Expecting around 80,000 attendees, EGX will be the biggest games convention in the UK, or so EGX claims. There will be games to play, devs to talk to, and even a chance to go around the GamesIndustry Fair and discover how to get a career in video games — or get one, if you already know how. Advent Saga Revives Self On Kickstarter, Promises Better Stuff

4596752030_646x253

While I personally did not see it, the game Advent Saga apparently underwent a Kickstarter campaign around two years ago, but failed. Now, with newfound direction and learning from their mistakes, they’ve remade their campaign once more and set off for $15,000 in funding to get their game into beta. Continue reading

Five Nights At Freddy’s 3 Sneaks Past Cameras, Jumpscares Dev, Releases Self Early

There was quite a shock across the internet last night, as the much-awaited sequel to the Hide From Robot Bear Simulator Five Nights at Freddy’s came out of, seemingly, nowhere.

Apparently there was a countdown of some sort, but a lot of people missed it. For most (i.e., me) the news only came about when people began to stream the game on Twitch, pushing the game up to the top 10 games streamed on the website.

Missed out on the fun? Have a blurb to tide you over: Continue reading

‘Unraveled’ Game Full Of Imagination, Fantasizes Support From Community

Kickstarter can be a source of buried treasures. Sure, a lot of the content on Kickstarter is buried for a very good reason, but there is the occasional gem that looks to have a solid base underneath it. Such is the case of Unraveled, a little game that has recently popped up on the crowdsourcing website.

The game appears to have a lot of imagination put into it. Described as an ‘adventure, an RPG, a platformer, an interactive story’, the game is about a girl trying to find her parents, while accompanied by a giant fluffy…thing. Continue reading

Total War: ATTILA released, Fans In For A Ton of Hun Fun

15356321190_c2d47ae94f

The Total War series is one of those games where I wish I got into them, but I can’t. There’s nothing wrong with the game itself; it merges country-wide strategy with the unit-based tactics to make a stellar game. I just could not get into it to save my life. I really wished it would have clicked with me at some point of playing through the series, but I guess I’m not a big enough megalomaniac for empire builders.

If you’re into that sort of thing, let me congratulate you on getting further than I could manage. You may also be interested in the latest installment to the series, Total War: ATTILA. I don’t know if the capital letters are part of the title. It’s just what I’m being told, here. Continue reading

‘Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator’ Plans To Beam Up Fans To Convention

banner-img

So, I mean, this is the part where I tear into this convention like a jock into a mathlete. Yes, there’s a game that is supposedly made to emulate the experience of operating a space ship a lá Star Trek, a multiplayer experience where each person controls different parts of the ship. Yes, the game is getting a convention, where nerds all over the world will gather to celebrate the game. Yes, I’m supposed to throw out biting criticisms and ‘what will they think of next?’ quotes until I fill in enough wordcount to constitute an article.

But you know what? This convention sounds hella rad. Continue reading

Asteroids Game Has Second Coming, May Not Be Quite What You Expect

Don’t you love it when a company breathes new life into an old franchise? Fans of old can revisit their old sparks, while those unknown to the series can venture in for the first time. From Tomb Raider to Thief, we’ve seen a lot of old games get a second life, whether it was for the best or not. So it should come to no surprise, then, that the classic game of Asteroids (yes, the Asteroids — the 2D ship-spinning shooter) is seeing new life. So, a 3D space ship shooter with asteroids — what’s not to like?

Well…it’s not exactly that. Continue reading
